On 26 December 2024, the Umran Academic Research Association, in collaboration with the Comparative Literature Department, proudly supported the South Asian Culture and Literature Event held at the Teoman Duralı Conference Hall. This landmark event celebrated the introduction of an Indian Literature course for undergraduate students, a pioneering initiative by the Comparative Literature Department and Umran Academic Research Association. The course, taught by Dr. Rahmi Oruc and Rajeev Kumar, signifies a transformative step in promoting cross-cultural understanding and academic exchange.

The event began with a distinguished visit by Mr. Mijito Vinito, the Consul General of India in Istanbul, accompanied by his delegation. They were warmly received by Ibn Haldnun University’s President, Prof. Atilla Arkan. The meeting highlighted potential avenues for further collaboration, strengthening the ties between Turkey and India in academic and cultural spheres.

A vibrant cultural and literary exhibition followed, offering participants a glimpse into South Asian traditions and the profound role of its literature and culture in shaping society and civilization. A special henna art activity, led by Rawan Alagawany and Rabia Khalid, brought an engaging and interactive element to the program.

The event featured insightful speeches by prominent personalities, including Consul General Mijito Vinito, Vice-President Prof. Özcan Erkan Akgün, Head of the Library Department Sönmez Çelik, and Assist. Prof. Emine Hoşoğlu Doğan, Head of the Comparative Literature Department. Rajeev Kumar, who moderated and led the event, emphasized the importance of sustained engagement with South Asian studies and proposed the formation of a South Asian Student Club to bridge the academic gap and create new avenues for collaboration.

The event concluded with the screening of Mirza Ghalib, a film that beautifully portrays the life and legacy of the iconic Urdu poet during the reign of the last Mughal emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar. Guests were treated to authentic South Asian delicacies and refreshments, offering a delightful end to this enriching cultural celebration.

Umran Academic Research Association extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the organizers, participants, and supporters who contributed to making this event a resounding success. Together, we continue to promote meaningful dialogues and foster cultural exchange that bridges divides and builds understanding.
