On June 14th, the Umran Green Perspective Foundation organized a significant meeting with the women of Akaunha village, located in Ward no. 14. The objective of this gathering was to raise awareness and discuss various societal issues that have been affecting the educational, health, social, and cultural aspects of the community, ultimately tarnishing the legacy of Bihar, a state that has provided visionary leaders to the world. The event was efficiently coordinated by Veena Devi, with the support of Rajeev Kumar (Founder), Pink Devi, and Rita Devi.
During the meeting, several critical issues that are prevalent in Bihar were addressed. Education, hygiene, health, environment, and cultural deterioration were among the major concerns discussed. The gathering sought to understand why the term “Bihari” has become a derogatory slang and an abuse. Furthermore, the meeting questioned why, despite producing numerous IPS and IAS officers, Bihar still remains one of the most backward states in the country. The high corruption rate and crime prevalence in Bihar were also topics of discussion. Additionally, the event shed light on the failure of government schemes to reach the people effectively. It was emphasized that Bihar is facing deep-rooted problems that extend beyond just social and economic issues; there is a need to address the civilizational and spiritual aspects that have hindered Bihar’s growth. The event emphasized the importance of self-improvement and the necessity for collective action.
To tackle these challenges, it was proposed that a committee be formed at the local level. The committee would be responsible for working towards resolving the identified issues. It was recognized that the government alone cannot bring about the desired change. In addition to the fundamental rights enshrined in the constitution, the event highlighted the significance of fundamental duties and the responsibility of every individual towards their society. The example of Meghalaya and Kerala was cited to illustrate how citizens of those states maintain cleanliness, greenery, hygiene, and overall beauty, which Bihar should also strive to achieve.
Another crucial topic addressed during the meeting was women’s hygiene and its impact on their health and the well-being of their children. The participants discussed the importance of awareness regarding sanitary pads and distributed them among the women and girls present.
As a result of the meeting, a committee consisting of nine women, both literate and illiterate, was formed. The committee members, namely Indrasen Devi, Devika Devi, Ghuran Devi, Veena Devi, Ranju Devi, Pinki Devi, Priyanka Chaurasiya, and Rita Devi, were selected to conduct regular meetings and foster a sense of togetherness and collaboration for the desired change.
Approximately 100 women and children participated in the event, which concluded with the decision to hold weekly meetings every Sunday at the Umran Foundation’s office. These meetings will serve as a platform for women to gather, discuss, and exchange ideas regarding education, hygiene, women’s issues, cultural matters, and environmental concerns. Rajeev Kumar addressed the audience, emphasizing the importance of unity and awareness. He encouraged regular attendance at the meetings, as he believed that consistent interaction would lead to innovative solutions and bring about positive change. Kumar also emphasized the need to address the Nal-Jal Yogna, a government initiative marred by corruption, resulting in a lack of accessible tap water. He stressed that addressing this issue requires unity, collective spirit, and a determination to drive societal change not only in the local community but throughout Bihar.
Overall, the meeting organized by the Umran Green Perspective Foundation served as a crucial platform for women in Akunha village to come together and address the pressing social issues that have hindered the progress of Bihar. The event aimed to instill a sense of responsibility, unity, and empowerment among the participants, fostering a community spirit for the betterment of the village, the state, and ultimately, the entire society.
