Akaunha is a small village in Bihar, located on the border of India and Nepal with a total of 2000 households and 4000 children. The literacy rate in Akaunha village is below 20%. Due to lack of education, children are involved in illegal activities, which has impacted their education and lifestyle negatively. Hence, we have decided to work for the educational needs of the village and for the sake of the future of the children. UMRAN initiated this project by doing a survey and this research work shows that there is only 1 primary school and two madrasas for 4000 children most of whom do not even attend school. The school itself has had only 2 teachers (at govt. school) since 1987 with little improvement.
Bihar is one of the most backward regions today in India. Once, it used to be an educational, political and cultural center for the world but it has lost its glory of the old days. It is a root place where Indian philosophy developed and took shape into Buddhism, Jainism and other religious traditions. Nalanda used to be the house of one of the oldest universities that gave vision to the world. At Nalanda, the world’s first seat of higher learning, a university, was established during the Gupta period. It continued as a seat of learning till the middle ages, before the invaders burned it down. It is one of the causes behind all the education and philosophy that exists in India today.
For the Akaunha education project, 12 volunteers along with local hospitals of the village have decided to work for the educational development of the village. UMRAN wants to improve the literacy level of the village. Its aim is to build a library for the children which will not only house books, but it will be symbolic that it will bring people together to mutually support each other’s artistic and cultural engagements.
To raise $5,000 by October 14, 2021, in support of the establishing SLY Library. We need this support for bookshelf, books, stationery for children, tables and chairs, musical instruments, accessories for activities. Library will not only create an environment of education in the but it will develop the conscience and also new oppertunity which will prevent children going into illegal activities.
SLY Library is model of our Green School. We are envisioning an UMRAN Green School, which draws inspiration from Walter Gropius’s Bauhaus School & Ibn Haldun’s concept of UMRAN. It is being established physically in Madhubani, Bihar (India). However, UMRAN Green School is being operated worldwide online to provide free education to all, bringing different sections of societies on one platform.
